Homeowner Tips: How to Remove Limescale From Plumbing Fixtures

So before we start with the solution we need to get the cause of the limescale. It starts with our municipality water. The water provided by our local water department.By the time our water leaves our beautiful lakes and mountain tops the water runs through hundreds of miles through our land picking up chemicals pesticides from farm land and all other toxic chemicals we add along the way.  When it finally arrives, it needs to be treated to supply our homes in a safe manner.  The best example is a swimming pool.  We treat our pools by dumping chlorine to rid bacteria. Our local water department does the same thing. So lime scale stems from the minerals in the water.

Once it supplies our house it goes through our plumbing system with high those levels of chlorine and chlorinates. We turn on and off our fixtures.   Like the showers, lavatories, water heaters, washing machines. There is always a change of pressure, temperature, direction, and flow, allowing the calcium to form sticky like crystals which adhere to our plumbing.  The effects are not just what we see on the outside. What does it do to the inside? What about our piping?  Hard water can cause major leaks in our plumbing systems.  It can cause that water heater to make a popping sound by filling up the tank with hard water deposits.  And cause our plumbing to work less efficiently.

The most common practices in removal of lime scale by homeowners is the use of topical spray on products.  This is not the end solution.  The only permanent solution is installing a whole house water conditioner, to capture and break down the calcium and magnesium preventing the adhering effect to our plumbing.  It’s not bad to have the calcium and magnesium left in the water, because its supposed to be good for us. So a system that breaks it down to protect your plumbing may be what you need. There are plenty of great options out there on the market.

Well I hope this will help you find your solution to your hard water lime scale prevention. It might be one of the best investments to your home especially if you plan on living there a long time.
