” My water heater was having issues so I called. Within an hour, a plumber was here and assessing the situation. Seemed to be an easy fix so he got working. He checked a few important things and noticed they were passed their prime and he advised to replace them. “

When it comes to emergency plumbing there can be so many different plumbing issues that all of the sudden happen that are REAL plumbing emergencies. These do require a skilled plumbers immediate attention.

Twin Home Experts has been an emergency plumber in Los Angeles for over 28 years , performed more than 6,000 emergency plumbing calls during and after hours. Here are some commonly asked questions we get for plumbing issues:

How Do I Get Hair Our Of My Shower Drain?

If your shower drain fills up right away, then your hair clog is more local. This is going to be the easiest problem to solve.  If you have standing water in your shower, then more than likely the clog is further down the line and needs a deep cleaning.

If this is the case then traditional drain snaking using a 1/4 inch cable to feed the metal cable down to wrap the hair and loosen up debris.

Here is a video showing you what to expect while performing drain snaking with a cable that will pull out a massive hair clog out of shower drain: https://youtu.be/haxi6Iq1Mcg

Twin Tip: run HOT water after you clear the line, if you hear a mixture of air and water, then you have accomplished clearing the drain.

Twin Tip: Find the cheapest drain cleaning special out there from a reputable plumber and have them give it a shot. These drain cleaning specials are as low as 45.00. Now, if they try to sell you something more then 1,000.0 ALWAYS get a second opinion.

Why Does My Plumbing Smell?

Your P-Trap is dried out. For most of your sinks, showers, and other plumbing fixtures, you will find a p or u shaped pipe.

This holds water in your system to prevent any odors from coming out of your drain. However, it can dry up and allow these smells to escape. This is more common in bathrooms and sinks that aren’t used regularly.

Biofilm may be building up in your drain. As you take a shower, your shampoo, soap, and dirt go down the drain. This often builds up over time, causing a biofilm. Bacteria will start to grow there and that becomes smelly.

Your garbage disposal needs to be cleaned out. Though you should be able to put almost anything down your garbage disposal, that doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need to be cleaned. If you forget to do that, the smell will remind you.

You may be having problems with your sewer line. Your sewer line can become clogged and damaged. This can be due to anything that goes down the drain (or toilet) that shouldn’t, along with tree roots and other things. There are also times when the sewer line breaks, causing sewage to seep into your home or yard.

How Do I Get Rid of a Drain Clog?

Here are some of the most common causes of drain clogs. Often, many drains will be clogged with a combination of several of these things.

  • Hair
  • Dirt
  • Soap and mineral buildup
  • Toilet paper
  • Food waste
  • Small Objects
  • And much more

A drain clog can also mean that you have problems with your entire sewer system. You may have tree roots causing the clog. This needs to be taken care of quickly.

Why Is There Water Under My Sink?

Leaking waste pipe – Sometimes, a waste pipe may not have been fitted correctly, allowing leaks to occur.

Dripping valves – Shutoff valves under the sink may need to be tightened or replaced.

Leaking garbage disposal – Several parts comprising the garbage disposal could allow water to leak under the sink. It could be that a part needs to be tightened, or the disposal unit might need to be replaced.

Leak coming from the hand-held spray when using – There could be a loose connection, a cracked hose, or a part of the sprayer or the entire sprayer might need to be replaced.

Cracked countertop or caulking around the sink is bad– It is easy to see how a cracked countertop or poor caulking could cause water to leak under the sink. This could be a minor fix or something more major.

Why Is My Drain Slow?

Hair – This is mainly an issue in the bathroom, specifically the tub or shower drain. However, hair can also clog bathroom and kitchen sinks.

Compaction – Several types of items can settle in your pipes like soap, dirt, grease, and food waste. Often the combination of these substances with hard water can create a gunky sludge that sticks to the sides of your pipes.

    Real Customer Case Study #2

Walter called in a plumbing emergency in West Hollywood, stating that he sees water leaking down his driveway, we drove across town and arrived within 60 minutes and when we arrived he said “ Sorry, we just found out that my neighbor is draining his swimming pool”.

We had to charge 125.00 which he didn’t like and didn’t think it was fair because we didn’t do anything, we understand, but we have gas, wear and tear on vehicle and technicians that we have to pay.

These types of calls are very uncomfortable for both the emergency plumber and homeowner.

We recommend, if your plumbing emergency is NOT causing damage to your property, then do a quick inspection of your plumbing system to verify.

    Real Customer Case Study #3

Santa Monica CA: An emergency plumbing leak inside a ceiling, we arrived for a free estimate, but when arrived there was water pouring out of the ceiling.

A plumber can’t see where the leak is coming from or what work needs to be done until the ceiling gets opened up in order to provide a price for plumbing repair.

So the first step is what we call a diagnostic and or leak detection fee.
