In fact, most plumbers go through an intense training period, only to make nearly half of what most doctors make. Why is this? Why would a plumber need such training? And if so, why would his or her income not be comparable to that of doctors or attorneys?

We strongly believe plumbers bring skills and experience to your door.

Consider this: unlike your doctor, your mechanic or your lawyer, your plumber is making a house call. To explain, your plumber shows up to your home in uniform, in a fully stocked, well-maintained truck with all the tools to handle nearly anything your home or you may throw at him or her. He or she is fully insured from the truck to your doorstep and also within your home. They are treating your home’s health, while ensuring yours and theirs at the same time.

For example, if your water heater is leaking carbon monoxide, the plumber will not only diagnose it but they will know how to correct it. If sewer gas is entering a home or a water line is leaking, they will be able to fix that. If there is sewer water under your home, he or she will have to remediate and repair under those gross conditions. Plumbers also have to deal with mold, asbestos, lead and dust, which can cause huge consequences later in life if not properly protected from.

The plumber’s skill set must be extensive, considering most of your home is made up of plumbing systems and the possible scenarios can be daunting, as no house is built or plumbed the same.

Plumbers offer more than just experience. Here are some factual costs worth considering, even before they show up to your door:

    • Customer service representatives who answer your phone call 24/7
    • Vehicles undergoing wear and tear on their way to your property, as well as fuel costs
    • Liability insurance and workers’ compensation protecting you
    • Clean uniforms, shoe coverings, and business cards
    • Advertising and marketing
    • Bonds, city taxes, business licenses, permit/CSLB fees
    • Weekly training and classes weekly, as well as yearly certification
    • Tools that have to be repaired and maintained
    • Health benefits and retirement plans for employees
    • Office space and/or warehouse

All and all, we think it is important to remember that the plumber comes to you, saving you the inconvenience of having to drop your home off for a repair. It cost a typical plumber $120 just to roll the tires to your home.

A plumber isn’t as respected as a doctor due to society’s perception of their trades. Therefore, the services they render are sometimes underappreciated or undervalued. This is how a plumber is perceived today. The Twin Home Experts would like to change that!

If you’ve ever attempted a plumbing repair yourself, you may have a new appreciation for what your plumber does. Most people will admit that they will never try to tackle that plumbing project again!
