Homeowner Tips: Keep Your Plumber Working for You

Here at The Twin Plumbers we are used to getting all types of calls. The most frustrating calls we get from a customers is, “I had a plumber who started the work, after I gave him money he never showed up again.” Or, “I have not heard from my plumber in days, I can’t get a hold of him.” As the plumbing industry educators we want to make sure you’re informed and educated the right way when your looking for your Los Angeles plumbers.

We could never understand how someone could run or operate this way. The reasons are typically over booked, promises made with other customers, not enough funds to pay for other projects, under bid the job & realized, and so many more ridiculous reasons.

These types of actions hurt the overall contracting business and creates a bad name for the good contractors. We wanted to write this blog to protect and educate you from these types of companies or guys out there, hopefully they can read it as well and make some changes in there business for the better. Before you engage in any work with any contractor, really do your due – diligence by asking him for the basic bond information ROC information and insurance. In fact, on the insurance, ask him to name you as an additional insured. It does not cost him any money to do that. Especially do it for a larger project.

Next, you should not just settle for a verbal agreement. Get it all in writing. Make him write the specifics of the work, payment structure, start and finish date. We always recommend you ask for money credited back to you, if he fails not to finish when he told you he would. For example (ask for $100.00 per day for everyday he’s not completed)

Do not be satisfied with a blank invoice that does not have company information, or contact information.

Never give a huge deposit to a Los Angeles plumber before he starts the work. Make sure when he provides the material, you give him progress payments. Too many times these guys get away with large deposits, and never return because there funding other projects realizing they under bid yours.

Make sure you get some references from family, friends, or neighbors. More than likely if he performed work and they had a great experience they will remember the name.

Well, hope these tips will give some great direction on what to look for before you hire that Los Angeles plumber or contractor. It is truly our passion to educate our customers and we will continue to do so.
