Twin Tips: 7 Pointers to Help Protect Yourself From Choosing the Wrong Plumber

After 25 years as a plumbing contractor here at The Twin Plumbers, we have been to job sites in the Los Angeles area where the other contractor never showed or completed the job. We have seen customers in tears over this. After seeing this, and being the passionate educators that we love to be, we want to give you some great insight on how to make sure this doesn’t happen to you.

We strongly believe when you start a job, finish it all the way through. We know how busy we get and shuffling jobs can be a task, but it’s important to take one job at a time, and finish, so you can go off to the next one.

There are too many contractors that will show up start a project then never return. We have found it with more of the one man operations here in LA. Most are not licensed we come to find. But plumbers should not be playing catch up and making their customers deal with it. They should finish one before starting the next, or get them all done within the timeframe they informed their customer.

Tips to Help Protect Yourself When Choosing a Plumber

    1. When you hire the contractor it’s important to verify all licensing, insurances and bonding information. If they do not have it, THINK TWICE before starting.
    2. Do not have him start the job off of just a verbal agreement. Ask for a written contract, with all the details that pertains to the scope of work. Include all the materials, days of completion, as well as payment structure. Before any work commences.
    3. No large deposits before work starts. Sometimes these types of contractors use your money to fund other jobs. They get themselves in a pinch and they find other jobs to continue their cycle.
    4. Do not settle for any work orders that are blank & do not have there place of business, phone numbers and contact information.
    5. Ask if you can pay by credit card, this gives you extra protection as long as you have a written contract you can dispute the charges with your credit card provider.
    6. Put a clause in your contract a penalty fee for everyday he is passed the completion date or a day that he doesn’t show when he was supposed to.
    7. Ask him to add you as an additional insured on his insurance policy for a large project. This will help you in two ways. If there was ever an issue, you can put a claim into his insurance Co. Make sure his insurance is all up to date and current, at the time of your project.

These 7 Twin Tips should help you from getting a plumber or any Los Angeles contractor for that matter not to leave you stranded with holes, opened walls, or plumbing half completed and left undone.
