Who is Responsible for Rats in My Drains?

Most homeowners call their local city sewer department, thinking it’s their responsibility, being that the rats are sourcing the city sewer then eventually into your home’s drains, unfortunately, the city will never take responsibility. This will have to be the homeowner’s responsibility.

Twin Home Experts have been dealing with Sewer rat invasion into homes than ever before. We have become the leaders in finding out how they’re coming in. Sewer rats have caused so much unforeseen damage to a home because rodent companies look past the sewer and drain system, they typically just perform exclusions and set up bait stations, then walk away and monitor. Then the homeowner starts to hear scratching in walls in the ceiling and smell rat urine. Meantime bait stations that the pest control companies set up are not working. The problem only gets worse.

Case study: Our customer who spent a number of sleepless nights and hired multiple local pest control companies for 2 years without success, called the Twin Home Experts and this is what we found (watch the video).

These sewer rats can climb up to the second floor of your home then chew through the pipes to gain direct access into your walls and ceiling.

How to Get Rid of Rats in my Sewer?

There are a few ways to do this depending on your access to your main sewer drain that exits your home. Here are some options to consider:

    # 1 – The best thing to do to get rid of rats in your sewer system is to add a backflow prevention valve to the main sewer system.

You want to make sure that you periodically inspect the flap which permits sewage water out when the sewage is flowing out of your home to make sure that rats are not trying to chew through.

Twin tip: We like using flex seal paste and apply it to the surface. Rats hate flex seal.

    # 2 – Introduce root killer foaming product

If you don’t have access to install a backflow prevention device or it’s too costly, then consider Introducing foaming root killer down the drain before you go to bed at night. Rats hate this chemical and foaming up the sewer line while you’re sleeping is a huge deterrent for rats. We like using:

Find the product on Amazon (ROOTX)- The Root Intrusion Solution.

Twin tip: introduce this product every 3 days for about 3 weeks. Then scale down to once a month for 3 months.
